Cryopreservation in plastic surgery: Our experience and review of the literature

Abstract

Environmental insults to animal body lead to critical times for the organism between life and death in which to be fighted without any organ sacrifice. Portrayed by Dylan Thomas during the case of his father’s larynx cancer; advises him to sleep in order to survive. An interesting understanding of nature by the poet (“stand-by” state of organism saves from death) just like trying to adress the main purpose of “cryopreservation”. In order to cope with extreme situations, nature provides strategies of decreasing metabolical activity to certain animal; letting them to survive in strict conditions such as cold/hot environments or hypoxia. © Springer-Verlag London 2015.
