The Relationship between Perceived Parental Attitudes and Somatization Symptoms of Kids with Divorced or Nondivorced Parents

The main purpose of this study is to examine perceived parental acception- rejection/ control levels by children whose parents are married and divorced and the effects of these perceptions on somatization symptom levels. Participants of the study are consist of 4.,5., 6., 7., 8. class from several public middle schools in Ankara, Çankaya between the ages of 10-14, 87 girls, 123 boys in total 210 children whose parents are married and divorced. ‘Sociodemographic Form’, ‘Parental Acceptance- Rejection/ Control Questionnaire Mother and Father Short Forms (PARQ/C)’ and ‘Children's Somatization Inventory- 24 (CSI-24)’were used for collection tool. Obtained results of the study revealed that marital status of parents affects dependent variables which means children whose parents are divorced perceived more ‘coldness/ lack of affection’, ‘hostility/ aggression’, ‘indifference/ neglect’ and ‘undifferentiated rejection’ from both their mothers and fathers. The results have been achieved that marital status of the parents and children's' acceptance- rejection, control perception levels common effect is not predict the children's somatic symptoms. Also the research results shows that children's somatization symptoms increase when parents' socioeconomic levels are decreases, somatic symptoms are most associated with perceived hostility from father. Boys perceive more undifferentiated rejection than girls, boys perceive their fathers as more controller. Arastirmanin katilimcilari Ankara'nin Çankaya bölgesindeki devlet ortaokullarina devam eden, anne babasi evli ve bosanmis olan ve yaslari 10- 14 arasinda degisen 87 kiz, 123 erkek olmak üzere toplam toplam 210, 4. 5.,6.,7.,8. sinif ögrencilerinden olusmaktadir. Veri toplama araci olarak, ‘Sosyodemografik Form’, ‘Ebeveyn Kabul Red Kontrol Ölçegi Anne ve Baba Kisa Formlari (Çocuk/Ergen EKRÖ/K)’ ve ‘Çocuk Somatizasyon Envanteri-24’ (ÇSE- 24) kullanilmistir. Elde edilen veriler, ebeveynlerin medeni durumlarinin bagimli degiskenler üzerinde etkili oldugunu yani, ebeveynleri bosanmis olan çocuklarin hem annelerinden hem de babalarindan daha fazla ‘sogukluk, ‘düsmanlik/ saldirganlik’, ‘kayitsizlik/ihmal’ ve ‘farklilasmamis red’ algiladiklarini ortaya koymustur. Anne ve Baba EKRÖ/K' nin bütün bir model olarak ‘somatizasyon belirtilerini’ açiklamada istatistiksel olarak anlamli oldugu, fakat, ebeveynlerin medeni durumlari ile çocuklarinin algiladigi kabul-red, kontrol düzeylerinin ortak etkisinin çocuklarin somatik belirtilerini yordamadigi sonuçlarina ulasilmistir. Ayrica arastirma sonuçlari, ebeveynlerin sosyo-ekonomik düzeyleri düstükçe çocuklarin somatizasyon belirtilerinin arttigini, somatik belirtilerin en çok babadan algilanan düsmanlik ile iliskili oldugunu, erkek çocuklarin kiz çocuklara göre her iki ebeveynden de daha fazla farklilasmamis red algiladiklarini, erkeklerin babalarini daha kontrolcü olarak algiladiklarini ortaya koymustur.
